A Commentary on Awards Season

This is the time of year where all the blood rushes to my face and I feel dizzy with excitement! After watching several indie films throughout the year, I fucking lose it because now that that’s over and done with, it’s time for awards season.

If you think watching the awards is the best part, it’s not (well it is, but there’s better shit goin’ on too and I don’t want you to forget about it or miss it). When I set my DVR up to record upcoming awards shows - just in case I have prior engagements already planned out - I record three things:

1. E!’s Live From the Red Carpet (no other Live from the Red Carpet will suffice.. fuck all the news anchors, Giuliana’s the best)

2. the actual awards show

3. E!’s Fashion Police the following night (usually a Monday around 10pm)

What I find is that all of this combined gives you an entire different experience and perspective on things. The pre-awards Live From the Red Carpet let’s you see every single person actually attending the awards show, as well as what they’re wearing (which you can then judge for yourself is shit or amazeballs). The post-awards Fashion Police includes Joan Rivers, Kelly Osbourne, Giuliana Rancic and sometimes a celeb guest. They offer brutally honest opinions of what these people decided to wear on the most important nights in the film industry - in short they tell you if they blew it.

If you’re already on top of all this, my apologies, but I had to share. I’m so excited. I can’t wait until the very first (significant) show on Sunday! Just in case you’re in need of a schedule, here it is:

Sunday, January 12th - 2014 Golden Globe Awards

Thursday, January 16th - 2014 Critics’ Choice Awards

Saturday, January 18th - 20th Screen Actors Guild Awards

Sunday, February 16th - 67th BAFTA Awards

Saturday, March 1st - 2014 Independent Spirit Awards

Sunday, March 2nd - 86th Academy Awards

Music in Film: Blue is the Warmest Color

One scene that stuck with me (of many) in Blue is the Warmest Color was Adele’s backyard birthday party, in which she dances to Lykke Li’s I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix). There are so many things this scene made me feel while watching - the words truly reflect how deep Adele and Emma’s love goes. And god I love watching this girl act, period.

Brody’s Death Confirmed by Executive Producer

I finally watched the season finale of Homeland, and I needed a fucking cigarette afterward. I thought it was brilliant, however days after going around the web seeing everyone’s comments, it seems that some people refuse to believe Brody’s death was real, and that he’ll be back for season 4. I just want to say after thorough research for this claim, I found this article that stated the following:

[Homeland executive producer and head writer Alex] Gansa says, ”We knew from the very beginning of the season, that was one of the very first decisions we made in the story room. The entire story was plotted to lead up to that moment.” Gansa says it became clear when the writing team decided to send Brody to Tehran on a mission. “We knew he wouldn’t come out of Iran alive. There was a lot of emotion on the set. It was not only that were we saying goodbye to the character but to Damian Lewis.” He adds, “I’m immeasurably sad to say goodbye to Damian, who did one of the most remarkable jobs bringing it to life. I’m not going to miss him. I’m going to mourn him.”

And he confirms that Brody is definitely dead. He’s not coming back. “There’s nothing ambiguous about it. Brody’s done.”

Morena Baccarin, who plays Brody’s wife Jessica, and Morgan Saylor, who plays daughter Dana, will not be series regulars for Season 4. The Brody family members, says Gansa, have “served their purpose.”

New Trailer for Interstellar

Okay so finally Christopher Nolan is teasing us with this vague trailer for Interstellar - but I have all the faith in the world it’s gonna be amazing, for Nolan is a film god. And lately, Matthew McConaughey has been impressing the shit out of me, what a great casting choice. Sidenote: This week Interstellar also got a new logo and website.
